Welcome to Forder Lane Care Home

We recognise that looking for a care home for yourself or a loved one is very important and that you need to feel confident that the environment and quality of care is of the highest standard.

At the recently refurbished Forder Lane House we offer a hotel style but homely and welcoming residential care setting where we are renowned locally for the quality of care we deliver – which we believe is second to none. Forder Lane House is a small residential care home, with 25 well appointed en-suite rooms, set in its own grounds. Forder Lane House is owned and managed by South Devon Rural Housing, a charitable not for profit organisation. We focus on care not profit.

Each of our rooms is well presented and equipped with en-suite shower rooms, a good range of high quality furnishings (you can of course bring your own), satellite television and internet. A telephone can be provided at extra cost but less than BT rates.

There are three common rooms of differing sizes to cater for all tastes. From our small library where residents can read or do jigsaws or chat, to our main room for events, music and fun in our reminiscent bar in the style of an old pub. Cocktails and music evenings go down well with residents and create a great social environment.

Being older does not mean you can not have fun and we provide a wide range of activities to stimulate, encourage social activity according to your interests. We also have a modern 14 seat mini bus for regular outings.

Our Chef prepares quality food from local sources catering to most nutritional and dietary needs. We recognise that food is very important for older people and a source of enjoyment so we aim to cater for a wide variety of individual choice. In warmer months you will see residents eating ‘al fresco’ on our patio next to the dining room or enjoying an outdoor Bar B Q.

We encourage potential residents to visit the home and maybe book to have a meal in our purpose built dining room. Families of residents are welcome at all times, but we prefer you to let us know if you are arriving after 8pm so we can ensure access and a welcome. Feel free to ask for beverages during your visit and should you wish to dine with a resident, meals can be made available at reasonable cost.

We aim to make every visit to Forder Lane a pleasant one. Forgive us on the odd occasion when we are very busy! – We are looking after your loved ones. Contact our Registered Care Manager should you wish to speak to a member of the senior team.

The Area

Dartington in South Devon on a great bend of the river Dart is situated not far from Totnes along the main road from Buckfastleigh. Although the famous Dartington glass can be purchased in its shops, visitors are surprised to learn it is actually manufactured in Great Torrington in the North of the county.

The gardens of the 14th Century Dartington Hall at Totnes are well worth a visit. Features include grass terraces, woodland walks, wild flower meadows and a landscaped Japanese garden providing a quiet and tranquil spot for contemplation. Sculptures to be seen include granite swans, a brass donkey and a new modern piece by internationally recognised artist, Peter Randall-Page.

The Dartington Cider Press Centre is a complex of shops, restaurants and traditional workshops including jewellery making and wood turning. The Centre is open 7 days a week all year round, with free parking, disabled access and picnic areas on-site. One of Devon’s top tourist attractions, the Centre prides itself on the unique village atmosphere in which it is run. The church of St. Mary was completed in 1880 and is considered a fine example of Victorian building, spacious and light with lofty Beer stone arcades and clear glass. (Source: Information Britain)

The village has a post office and shop along with a garage and a thatched pub. Of course on the doorstep are all the South Devon attractions such as Pennywell Farm, Sharpham Wine, South Devon Railway, River Dart boat trips and Agatha Christie’s summer home, Greenway near Dartmouth.
